Went here with a group of 8 friends (not a bachelor party) and booked it specifically so we had the dorm to ourselves. Dorm was colorful, high ceilings, clean, spacious. Beware that there are 2 dorms, one is "exclusive", the other serves as hallway to the balcony and another dorm (basically making it a 14 bed dorm).
The staff was very welcoming, 24 hour reception. Friendly vibe. The hostel is no party hostel and requests guests to be quiet after 22:00, which is fine since Morrisons 2nd is right across the street and other ruin bars are only a 10-15 min walk away. Would recommend!
This value of this hostel definitely beats what you're paying for it. When we arrived, it was relaxing and lively at the same time. All of the staff members were really nice and friendly, and also helpful whenever we needed anything. They make you comfortable ad feel "at home" as the description says. The location is also convenient as you can find buses right outside and the train station is about 5 minutes away. I'd also recommend having breakfast at that cafe that the hostel gives 10%. Great!
The staff is so helpful and accommodating. We got there very early in the day and they already had our beds ready, so we could take a much needed nap! We loved the vibe at the Groove because it was small and personal. It is a little farther outside of the center of town than we would have liked (30 minutes to the southern parts of Pest), but it's still only a 10 minute walk to other things. Overall loved it and would definitely stay here again!
I love The Groove! This hostel is very nice. It was always clean and the staff are very friendly. I was only planning to stay three days and ended up staying a week! I highly recommend it.
Amazing hostel! I felt like at home and didn't want to leave at the end. I stayed 3 nights, one of them was cooking night so we all had dinner together :) and another night was board game night which was a lot of fun. This helped a lot everyone to socialise on the main room :) Rooms are very spacious so sometimes it's easy to forget you are sharing with other 7 people. Only thing to note is that if you are on 8bed dorm, people from next room have to pass through your room to go to main rooms
Staff is super nice, friendly and helpful - thank you so much Dani and Dori, your hospitality does leave me a very fond memory in budapest Cozy atmosphere in the public space: if you wish to meet some other fabulous travellers, this will be the place! It is very near to the coastline - less than two-minute walk then you can enjoy the splendid view (and it is close to the train station and metro station too) A very reasonable price guarantees basically everything you need! Highly recommend!
I can definitely recommend this hostel ! Not big, cozy, so you really feel like at home. There is a common kitchen you can use to cook for yourself, they provide you with the towel, sheets and the lockable box for your stuff.
The location is perfect, near to the subway and to the Parliament, so it won`t take you long time to get to the most attractive sights.
But what is more important - the staff! Great guys! They meet you with the sincere smile, a cup of coffee or tea and the readiness to help you with anything you need.
I was really lucky to chose that hostel. Thank you for making me to fall in love with the Budapest!
This wasn't the best place we've stayed. We arrived at midnight in Budapest after a horrid bus ride from Zagreb, and the hostel wasn't well signed on the street. After finding it and being buzzed into a very old building, although quite stunning in the daylight, we made our way up two flights of pitch black stairs to reception. The staff were really great on check in, making me a much needed cup of tea. We were shown to our room (double private with own bathroom) which was back down one flight of stairs. The room was very big and there was access to another kitchen on that floor.
The disappointment though was that the room itself was quite outdated and felt dirty, especially the bathroom. I showered with thongs everyday as the shower was really gross looking. The water pressure was terrible and the water did not get hot at all. I spent our five days in Budapest not being able to wash properly. The beds also did not seem that clean.
We were able to adjust the heating thermostat, but it either seemed to be freezing cold or baking hot, no in between.
Being on a separate floor we also felt quite disconnected from the rest of the hostel.
The location is also quite far from the Jewish quarter and other attractions, although the closest metro stop is a 5 min walk away. There was a lot of noise from traffic and nearby bars late at night.
Security is good, as you need a code to access the building and then two keys for the room.
Overall we loved Budapest, but didn't really enjoy the stay at this hostel.
i stayed for 2 weeks in The Groove hostel, i was by myself and the staff(bo, kris, danni, dori and the rest) made me feel always at home, sitting and talking to me every night and making tea(dont forget to try kris's special tea) and explaining about where to go out and eat and everything you need to know. some of the dorms have curtains on the bottom bunk which is awesome, the hostel was always clean and comfy with a cool lobby and a tv lounge, supermarket nearby and tonz of stuff to do, oh and the balcony view! man, thats was great. kriss also did pub crawls to some underground local bars and in general i had no complains what so ever. stay here! you won't be disappointed!
Liked: The Groove is a true social hostel. The thing that strikes you at first is how open and friendly the staff are, and this has an impact on the guests too. It was very easy to meet people and hang out in the common areas such as the couches or the cool balcony overlooking the street. It's hard to tell staff apart from the guests! Definitely recommend this place!
